Requirements to enter Hong Kong

 

Only Hong Kong residents who are fully vaccinated and present recognised vaccination records will be permitted travel.

Pre-departure requirements

You will need a negative result proof of a polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based nucleic acid test for COVID-19 conducted within 72 hours before the scheduled time of departure of your flight.

You must also carry documentation to show that the laboratory or healthcare institution that carried out your test is ISO 15189 accredited OR is recognised or approved by the relevant authority of the government of the place in which the laboratory or healthcare institution is located.

You will be required to present confirmation of a room reservation in a designated quarantine hotel for a minimum of 21 nights.

 

Proof of vaccination

You must present a vaccination record issued by Hong Kong, or authority/recognised institution on the approved list.

The vaccination record must bear the name of the vaccinated traveller matching that in his/her valid travel document to show in Chinese or English that the relevant traveller has received dose(s) of COVID-19 vaccine, the date on which the last dose was administered, and the name of the vaccine administered.

If your vaccination record does not meet the above criteria, you must provide written confirmation in English or Chinese issued by the healthcare institution or a relevant authority of the government of the place where the vaccine was administered, bearing the name of the relevant vaccinated traveller matching that in his/her valid travel document and setting out all of the above information if the vaccination record is not in English or Chinese or does not contain all of the above information. The said written confirmation should be presented together with the vaccination record.

From 29th October, travellers aged 12 to 17 years old, who have received a single dose of the BioNTech Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, at least 14 days before departure will be accepted for travel. They must follow the same requirements as fully vaccinated travellers. 

 

COVID-19 testing on arrival

Those arriving at Hong Kong International Airport will be required to proceed to the Temporary Specimen Collection Centre (TSCC) set up in the restricted area of the Airport for COVID-19 testing immediately upon arrival. They will need to stay at the TSCC to wait for test results.

Entry documents

Upon arrival into Hong Kong you’ll be required to show the following documents.

  • a recognised vaccination record.
  • a completed and submitted health declaration which can be completed online here. After submitting, the system will generate a QR code. Please save the result and show it to the border control point staff upon entering Hong Kong.
  • confirmation of your accommodation booking for 21 nights, starting on the day of arrival in Hong Kong.

 

Quarantine

Upon arrival in Hong Kong, you will need to undergo a compulsory period of quarantine for 21 days in a designated quarantine hotel. During your quarantine period, you will need to take four Covid-19 tests, and self-monitor during the subsequent seven days. 

If you have been present in any of the following countries in the previous 21 days before entry into Hong Kong, you will be required to complete 7-day mandatory quarantine at Penny's Bay quarantine facility before completing the remainder of your 21-day quarantine in your booked hotel;

  • South Africa
  • Botswana
  • Eswatini
  • Lesotho
  • Malawi
  • Mozambique
  • Namibia 
  • Zimbabwe

Passport

Your passport should be valid for at least one month after the date of your departure from Hong Kong.

 

Visa

Only fully vaccinated travellers holding a recognised vaccination record will be permitted entry into Hong Kong.

From 29th October, travellers aged 12 to 17 years old, who have received a single dose of the BioNTech Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, at least 14 days before departure will be accepted for travel. They must follow the same requirements as fully vaccinated travellers. 

Following the latest government, World Health Organisation, and industry regulatory guidance, you must wear a face mask or face covering at all times onboard the flight and throughout the airport.

You may only remove the face mask for the following reasons:

  • To avoid harm or injury, or the risk of harm or injury, to yourself or others
  • To eat or drink where it is reasonably necessary to do so, or to take medication

There are some exemptions that apply to the wearing of face masks or face coverings:

  • If you can't put on, wear, or remove a face covering without severe distress, or due to any physical or mental illness or impairment, or disability (within the meaning of section 6 of the Equality Act 2010)
  • If you're travelling with, or providing assistance to, another person who relies on lip-reading to communicate<./li>
  • Children 11 and under unless you are travelling to/from the US*
  • *Customers travelling to or from the USA aged 2 and over must wear a face mask at all times in the airport and on board the flight. The same exemptions apply.
