Seating to suit everyone

The seating layout may differ slightly from one aircraft to the next, but there are always seats near exits, behind bulkheads and towards the front of the cabin. You can view your seat or make a new selection in My Booking.

Extra leg room

If you'd like extra leg room in Economy, book Economy Delight. You'll also get priority check in and boarding too!

Don't worry if you've already booked Economy Light or Economy Classic - You can upgrade to Economy Delight in My Booking

Preferred Seats

Preferred seats are available at an extra charge, so if you'd really like to secure a seat towards the front of Economy or Premium, this is the way to go.

Flying Club Gold, Delta Diamond and Delta Platinum members can select Preferred seats free of charge at any time, just make sure your membership number is added to your booking.

Exit row seats

These seats offer a large amount of leg room but you'll need to open the exit door unaided in an emergency situation.

This means exit row seats are only suitable for fit and able bodied passengers  aged 16 or over on the day of travel. Exit row seats are not suitable for passengers travelling with infants.

Unavailable seats

Front row seats behind each cabin divider are kept for passengers travelling with little ones who may require cots, and for anyone with special requirements.

You can choose available seats from the seat map when you book or in My Booking, but if you are flying with a baby or have special assistance needs, you can find out more below.

Your seating questions answered

Good to know

If you're not sitting behind another seat, you'll find the entertainment screen stored in your arm rest.

When you book your flight or log in to My Booking you’ll be able to select your seat from the seat map.

Standard seats can be selected free of charge. Unless you’re travelling in Economy Light, where your seat will be assigned at check-in.

If you’ve booked Economy Light and want to select a seat, you can pay to select a Standard/Preferred Seat.

If you want to select a Preferred Seat or an Exit Row seat, these seats are chargeable and the price will show when you hover over them.

We’ll always do our best to give you your chosen seats but sometimes we have to make changes for operational reasons.

If you’ve already chosen your seats, you can change your mind at any time before checking in. To change your seat selection, log in to My Booking.

Your new seat must be located in the same cabin as before, or you can choose to upgrade for an additional cost.

If you originally paid the extra charge for a Preferred seat, you could move to a different Preferred seat in the same cabin for free. The extra charge will be refunded if you pay to upgrade cabin, however, charges for Preferred seats are not refundable if you later choose a non-Preferred seat in the same cabin.

We're usually able to honour seat selections but there are occasions when we need to shuffle things around due to an aircraft change or other operational reasons.

On the occasions where it’s necessary to move your seat, we will always try and match your seat and your party to a like for like location and seat type.

Sometimes this isn't possible if the aircraft configuration changes or we need to prioritise seating for customers with special requirements.

You can view your seats at any time and change them to other available seats in My Booking.

If you paid to select your seat, but didn’t receive that seat type, you may be eligible for a refund of the seat charge. See section below: 'How do I rebook or request a refund?'.

There can be a number of reasons why seats aren't available on the seat map:

  • Occupied: Someone else has chosen this seat
  • Preferred: There is a charge to select this seat

You can receive a refund of any charges for Preferred seats in these situations:

· Result of operational, safety, security or other circumstances and we are unable to deliver the pre-assigned seat(s).

· The need to change seat assignments and we are unable to offer a Comparable Alternative. (See section 8 of our seating terms and conditions).

· A Virgin Atlantic flight is cancelled and passengers changed to an alternative Virgin Atlantic flight. If the Comparable Alternative seats cannot be offered and/or Advanced Seat Assignment is unavailable.

· A Virgin Atlantic flight is cancelled and passengers moved to an alternative flight on another airline.

· Passengers denied boarding due to flight over sales may be offered Advanced Seat Assignment on their alternative travel date. This is subject to the new flight being operated by Virgin Atlantic and there is availability. If there is no availability or moved to another airline.

Otherwise, charges to choose a Preferred seat are non-refundable.

To claim a refund for seats, upgrades or excess baggage, please complete our Refund form.

To rebook, log into My Booking and click or tap on the red web chat icon at the bottom of your screen.

We aim to automatically process seat refunds 14 days after you’ve travelled.
